Sustainable Swaps to Make in the New Year

At Laki Naturals, we believe in both clean beauty and clean living. Just a few easy changes can make a huge difference for the planet. Here are some of our favorite sustainable practices to try in the new year:

Use Reusable Food Wraps: Rather than disposing of plastic of aluminum each time you want to reheat something, opt for reusable cloth! Companies like Bee's Wrap offer 100% organic, cotton cloths coated in beeswax, tree resin and jojoba oil. You can wrap avocados and sandwiches, but also use them the exact same way you’d use cling-wrap over bowls or plates. The warmth from your hands softens the wraps just enough to allow them to stick. When you're done, simply rinse, dry and store for reuse. Not to mention they come in super cute patterns!

Silicone Mats Instead of Parchment Paper: Most people don't realize that a lot of parchment paper is bleached and that wax paper consists of paraffin. Silicone Mats are a man-made material, but are a safer solution because the composition of silicone remains contained when heated and cooled. Also, they can be washed, reused, and are inherently non-stick so you can stop reaching for the butter.

Pack Lunch: Bringing your own lunch is not only a great way to save money, but also reduces waste. Cut down on single-use food packaging and cutlery by packing your meal in Tupperware. If you want to go the extra mile, use snack containers instead of disposable, plastic snack baggies! Stasher makes cute, reusable versions of ziplock bags.

Remove Makeup with a Towel: You can help change the fact that tons of makeup wipes are tossed into landfills every single day. Use a product like The Makeup Eraser, which can be washed up to 1,000 times! All you do is add water and wipe away the makeup! No chemicals, less waste, easy swap.
